      Contemporary Giesen & Forsthoff razors aren't really known for their quality, as you'll see with even a cursory search for online opinions. Those reviews are, I think, a tad out of date, but not entirely wrong. Out of the box it is acceptable. While a bit of honing will bump 'acceptable' up to 'good', it shouldn't really be needed. People might tell you to always re-hone a new razor, but I've not been dissatisfied by Boker, Dovo or TI in this area. The gold plating is similarly just 'acceptable' - the underside of the shank and tang were poorly done and look to have been rubbed off by some clumsy handling. Certainly not something you'd let pass through proper QC. The scales are attractive, solid and have been pinned well.

      So yes, as a first razor, you could do worse. But for the price you can get better.

      I recently purchased Timor Lion razor and it has been a great addition to my shaving routine. The handle is comfortable to hold and the blade is sharp and precise. I've been using it for a few weeks now and have had no issues with it. It's definitely one of the best razors on the market!
